Why I Started This Blog & Brand
The truth is, I’ve been in love with Germany since I first visited in 2016. And I’ve been fascinated with the language and culture since I was a little girl.
My late grandmother, Barbara Hutchins, came from a German family that emigrated to the United States in the 1700s. Many descendants from that family still live in Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania today – and many of them have kept the German language alive by teaching it to their kids.
From an early age, I knew I had uncles, aunts, and cousins that I couldn’t create a connection with – because I didn’t speak German.
Through the years, little by little, I’ve been learning German and exploring my own heritage to see if I can connect with anyone who’s still alive. Both relatives who are here in the States, and perhaps even relates who still live in Germany.
In 2016, I finally made my first trip to Germany – exploring the southernmost region of Bavaria first. And I absolutely loved it (I’ve always loved mountains). And every time I’ve been back, I’ve explored another region or city. Frankfurt. Hamburg. Cologne. Nuremberg. But it took me a whole 10 years to finally make it to Berlin.
And now that I have, I’m helping other travelers who are Berlin Bound.

ABOUT BERLIN BOUND
Berlin Bound started when our travel agent collective decided to get serious. We were willing to take as many transatlantic flights as it needed, to build a business that lasts.
And we have! Most of our travel agents, itinerary planners, and content creators have been working with us since 2021. While our travel planning team is based in the United States, we work closely with tour companies, experience curators, content creators, and other travel professionals based in Berlin.
In 2026, we decided to get fancy and official – and launch this brand and website. We’re here to help our fellow American travelers see another side of the city.
Of course, we ensure that they don’t miss the must-sees on their first visit. But we know the real magic of Berlin, is everything not advertised in the forums and in the guidebooks.
We created this collective specifically to serve not only the travelers, but the business owners themselves. We want to ensure that travel advisors in the United States know the best kept secrets of Berlin, and that they have all of the tools they need to share them with their clients.
